We have no choice, we are going outside for supplies tomorrow. Together.

Weighing our options, the GIANT Supermarket is down the street about a mile, outside our development. It is the closest location and our best bet to find the supplies we need. Going on fargo007' advice, we will be visiting the pharmacy section for critical antibiotics as well. Please post comments on any other things to keep an eye out for.

I spent the day making a makeshift cart from an old beach cruiser bycylcle and miscellaneous parts found in the garage. Got to say, I am proud of how it turned out. must find time later to post pics. It is amazing what you can build if you only apply yourself.

I know I could easily take the Highlander SUV parked in the driveway, but I may need to gas for when I REALLY need it. The attention a vehicle will cause would be far to great as well, as I would surely be the only one driving on the road . I will only use it for a last resort who knows what the road condition is 1 mile down. The cart will be silent and steady.

We are now prepping for our journy tommorow. Going over our kit. Among other things, I have to plan for us being out longer than expected. Food/water/medicine/ect. Thank god I took the time to make a BOB a few years back on the suggestion from my friend Diego. For the Daylight journy my wife will be sporting lighter STAG m4 with 120 rounds. I will be taking my Bulgarian SLR-107 with 500 rounds(plus an additional 250 of 5.56 for my wife) .

Protection to our entire body from bites is absolutely critical. If i can find anything on our journy that will help us in this regards, Ill take it.

Right now I am double and triple checking everything. All the rifles are cleaned. Ammunition loaded. The cart is solid. The kit is set. Depending on how long I will be out. Expect to hear from my within 24 to 48 hours.

I left a hit counter running.

I have been using thin 3mil wet suit to help guard against bites. Be careful though, as you will get hot in a hurry. I havent had one bite me yet... but neopreme is tough stuff and you can still move around.

Its still raining cats and dogs down here in FL. Me and my buddy look like a couple of ninja tutles with poncho's on over all of our gear when out scavenging.

Good luck.. stay safe... and keep your powder dry.

  2. It's really amazing what priorities people have in times of crisis.

I took a chance and did some scavenging this past weekend. As I suspected, all of the "local" gun stores had been picked clean of firearms, magazines, and ammunition. Surprisingly, most accessories were still intact, so I was able to get a nice Aimpoint red-dot (the kind with the battery that lasts for eight years turned on) and a decent suppressor for my AR-15 and cobble together a custom Galco shoulder rig for my SIG 220.

Did some browsing around some food stores too. Unsurprisingly, there wasn't a crumb to be found anywhere. But no one had touched any of the toilet paper. Now my brother and I have enough TP to last us for months (thank God).

As I had feared, it appears that most of the people in my area either bugged out or became infected. Nearly all the houses are vacant. Those are the safe ones; the occupied ones have become veritable fortresses full of scared, trigger-happy survivors. A group almost turned me into Swiss Cheese when I got to close to their McMansion.

Did manage to scrounge a few hundred rounds of .223, and another 200 of .45. Still nothing for my brother's Glock or our Mossberg 12-gauge, though.

Food supplies are still okay for now. Figure we've got another week or so before I should start getting concerned.

    Stay sharp, and aim true,

    Raptor.

PS. I fear you may be right about the servers; internet connection has started to get spotty over the last week.

  3. Bites? Why did it have to be bites? The thought of one of those terrifying undead getting their jaws latched onto me has been the single thought going through my head the last three days. I finally found some old sports equipment in the burnt out rubble of a sporting goods store. Now I may look completely stupid, but with the baseball catcher's gear I came across, along with the football padding I scrounged together I'm feeling a little better about my chances.
Now if only I could find a gun...
